Cost Pass-Through with Capacity Constraints and International Linkages Staff Working Paper 2023-16 Reinhard Ellwanger, Hinnerk Gnutzmann, Piotr Śpiewanowski How are regional cost shocks passed through into global prices? We investigate the role of short-run capacity constraints and show that they can induce stark non-linearities in the pass-through. We highlight this effect for the market for ammonia, a commodity produced largely from natural gas. Weather the Storms? Hurricanes, Technology and Oil Production Staff Working Paper 2022-36 Johan Brannlund, Geoffrey R. Dunbar, Reinhard Ellwanger, Matthew Krutkiewicz Do technological improvements mitigate the potential damages from extreme weather events? We show that hurricanes lower offshore oil production in the Gulf of Mexico and that stronger storms have larger impacts. Regulations enacted in 1980 that required improved offshore construction standards only modestly mitigated the production losses. Financial Distress and Hedging: Evidence from Canadian Oil Firms Staff Discussion Paper 2019-4 Kun Mo, Farrukh Suvankulov, Sophie Griffiths The paper explores the link between financial distress and the commodity price hedging behaviour of Canadian oil firms. Structural Change and Forecasting Long-Run Energy Prices Staff Working Paper 2004-5 Jean-Thomas Bernard, Lynda Khalaf, Maral Kichian The authors test the statistical significance of Pindyck's (1999) suggested class of econometric equations that model the behaviour of long-run real energy prices. Oil-Price Shocks and Retail Energy Prices in Canada Staff Working Paper 2002-38 Marwan Chacra The effects of global energy-price shocks on retail energy prices in Canada are examined. More specifically, the author looks at the response of the consumer price indexes for gasoline, heating oil, natural gas, and electricity in Canada to movements in world crude oil prices.
