Government of Canada Pilot Bond Switch Program Launch: Operational Framework

On behalf of the Minister of Finance, the Bank of Canada announced today the operational framework for a pilot bond switch program. The program is designed to support the maintenance of a liquid Government of Canada new issue bond market through the exchange of less liquid outstanding bonds (repurchase bonds) into a benchmark bond (replacement bond).

Additional release time for calls for tenders for cash management bills

Effective immediately, calls for tenders for cash management bills may be released on any day at either 10:00 a.m. or 4:00 p.m. The addition of a later time to the existing Auction Timetable will increase the ability of the government's cash managers to raise balances on short notice in response to unexpected developments.

Survey of Foreign Exchange and Derivatives Market Activity in Canada

Summary results of a survey of Canadian foreign exchange and derivatives markets are now available. The survey was conducted by the Bank of Canada in April 1998 and covered activity in the foreign exchange and derivatives markets. Similar surveys were undertaken by about 40 other countries during the same month, and the central banks of many of those countries are also releasing their results today.
