Policy-makers reacted to the COVID-19 crisis through a variety of channels. This Systemic Risk Centre conference, co-organized with the Bank of Canada, focused on how financial markets responded to these policy initiatives and asked what we have learned for future interventions.

As part of the 2021 renewal of the Bank of Canada’s inflation-control agreement with the Government of Canada, Bank staff are currently comparing several monetary policy frameworks. The primary goal of this day-long workshop is to share—and receive comments on—these comparisons.

The event aimed at providing a forum for central bankers and academic researchers to discuss the arguments for and against the issuance of CBDC and under what conditions, if any, governments should issue their own digital currencies.
