Bio
Mark Hardisty was appointed Special Advisor to the Governor, effective November 6, 2019. As senior representative for the financial market community at the Bank of Canada’s Toronto Regional Office, he is responsible for maintaining a strong relationship with capital markets and for contributing to the Bank’s analysis of financial markets, institutions, products and regulations. Mr. Hardisty is also a member of the Bank’s Monetary Policy Review and Financial System Review committees. In this capacity, he contributes to the Bank’s objectives of conducting monetary policy to achieve low, stable and predictable inflation, and of promoting well-functioning financial markets.
Mr. Hardisty has more than 25 years of experience in capital markets, debt syndication and senior management roles, most recently as Managing Director and Global Head of Debt Syndication at CIBC Capital Markets in Toronto. He has also served on the boards of CanDeal and the International Primary Market Association.
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Mr. Hardisty holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of British Columbia and a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Cambridge.
