Jaime Trujillo is a Principal Economist in the Bank of Canada’s International Projection Division, where he contributes to the production and communication of the Bank of Canada’s global macroeconomic outlook. Jaime joined the Bank's Canadian Economic Analysis (CEA) Department in 2016 where he worked across several divisions, including the Real Economic Activity Division, Canadian Studies Division and the Projection Division. He holds a M.A. in economics from the University of Ottawa.

Assessing the effects of higher immigration on the Canadian economy and inflation

We assess the complex macroeconomic implications of Canada’s recent population increases. We find that newcomers significantly boost the non-inflationary, potential growth of the economy, but existing imbalances in the housing sector may be exacerbated. Greater housing supply is needed to complement the long-term economic benefits of population growth.
