Bio
Sylvain Chalut was appointed Managing Director and Chief Information Officer of the Bank’s Information Technology Services (ITS) Department in September 2011. He is responsible for leading the Bank’s IT strategy and positioning its architecture and systems to respond to evolving business needs. In collaboration with other departments, he ensures the effective operation of IT systems and the development of technology solutions adapted to the strategic and tactical goals of the Bank.
Since joining the Bank, Mr. Chalut has spearheaded the adoption of Cloud technologies and continues to lead work on cyber security, including the creation of a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) position. He has also led the implementation of an Enhanced Business Continuity plan to further improve the resilience of Canada’s financial system (daily settlement transactions worth an average of more than $180 billion and ~$385 billion of treasury bill auctions per year).
Mr. Chalut has more than 30 years of senior management and professional experience in information technology and telecommunications in the private and public sectors. Before joining the Bank, he was Chief Information Officer of the University of Ottawa and Director of Business Relationship Management at Bombardier Aerospace.
Mr. Chalut was born in Montréal, Québec. He holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (with a specialization in Software Engineering) from the École Polytechnique (Montréal) and a Bachelor of Science from the Université de Montréal. He is a member of both the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec and the Ordre des administrateurs agréés du Québec, and is a certified Project Management Professional. Mr. Chalut also obtained the Chartered Director (C.Dir.) designation from The Directors College (a collaborative agreement between McMaster University and The Conference Board of Canada) in 2018.
