Bank of Canada announces appointment of Nick Leswick as Executive Director of Policy

The Bank of Canada today announced that Nick Leswick has been appointed to the new role of Executive Director of Policy, effective January 9, 2024.

Reporting to the Senior Deputy Governor, Mr. Leswick will be responsible for overseeing the Bank’s economic and financial sector departments. By bringing oversight of these departments under one executive, the Bank will strengthen its governance arrangements and its ability to work across departments.

Mr. Leswick joins the Bank from the Department of Finance Canada, where he has been the Associate Deputy Minister since 2021. He previously served as Assistant Deputy Minister of the Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch and has held senior positions within the International Trade and Finance Branch at Finance Canada, and the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat.

“I’m very pleased to have Nick join us in this new and important role,” said Governor Tiff Macklem. “Nick brings extensive experience in organizational leadership and strategic planning, as well as a deep knowledge of economics and the Canadian economy. He will be a valuable addition to the Bank as we continue our efforts to fulfill our mandate to promote the economic and financial welfare of Canadians.”
