Release of the Monetary Policy Report
Growth of the Canadian economy has been essentially in line with the Bank's expectations as set out in the January Monetary Policy Report Update. But inflation has been higher than expected. After considering the full range of indicators, the Bank now judges that the Canadian economy was operating just above its production capacity in the first quarter of this year. -

Update of Securities Eligible as collateral under the Bank of Canada's Standing Liquidity Facility
Effective immediately, the Bank of Canada has updated its list of securities eligible as collateral under the Standing Liquidity Facility to include foreign issuer Canadian dollar securities. Foreign issuer securities are subject to the conditions and margins as identified in the Bank's collateral policy as posted on the Bank of Canada website. -

Renewing the International Monetary Fund: A Review of the Issues
Given the rapid and ongoing integration of the global economy, the International Monetary Fund needs to renew its role, governance structure, and functions if it is to maintain its relevance as the institution charged with promoting global financial stability. Lecavalier and Santor examine the areas of possible reform, including quota, voice, and representation; internal governance; surveillance; lending instruments; finances; and the Fund's role in low-income countries. They also review current Bank of Canada research that supports these reform efforts, including an integrated framework for IMF surveillance recently developed at the Bank.
